We’re proud to celebrate UBC Computer Science M.Sc. graduate and ACCESS Lab’s Ishita Haque, whose paper “Envisioning Interventions to Combat Misinformation Propagation on Social Media: Insights from Older Adults’ Approaches to Credibility Assessment” received a Best Paper Honourable Mention Award at CSCW 2025!
The paper explores how older adults assess the credibility of information on social media, finding that most prefer to independently evaluate posts before sharing, while others consult family and friends to collaborate in decision-making and strengthen social relationships. Building on these insights, Ishita and Dr. Dai propose design approaches that harness these credibility assessment practices to help mitigate the spread of online misinformation.
This recognition is especially meaningful as the award places Ishita’s paper among the top ~4% of submissions to CSCW, one of the most prestigious conferences in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community and the leading venue for Social Technologies research.
